Cabin Beautification Day

Garden Clubs Gussy Up Cabins at Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center

A portion of Salt Fork State Park took on the appearance of an HGTV scene on May 22, 2010 as landscapers from all over Ohio competed to see who could design the best landscaping around the park’s cabins. “When you consider the rain and mud they had to work through, their efforts were remarkable,” Cook said.

Hosted by the Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center, “Cabin Beautification Day” drew representatives from 25 garden clubs. All were members of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.
Coordinating the competition were Vicki Ferguson and Kathy Martino.

From 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the clubs labored, giving face-lifts to the grounds outside the park’s 25 chalet and lakeside cabins.

When the mulch settled, the Ganges Garden Club of Shelby emerged the winner. Sharon and Marc Ware of Fairfield placed and the Dillonvale Rosebud Garden Club of Dillonvale showed.

“We are so thankful for all of the participating garden clubs working so hard today to improve our cabin landscaping,” said Keith Cook. Cook is the general manager of the Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center.

In addition to the top three garden clubs, there were over 20 other clubs that attended the event.
Judges included Andrew Dix, publisher, The Daily & Sunday Jeffersonian; Jo Sexton, president, Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce; Anna Hodges, president, Eastern Ohio Art Guild; Mary Meyers, artist, Eastern Ohio Art Guild; Bonnie Perkins, member of the Grow and Show Garden Club of Cambridge; and Tom Taylor, owner of Old Stone House Nursery.
